Set in Victoria England, Tanya Wexler’s film concerns the early invention of the vibrator to treat “female hysteria”, the trailer is filled with wall-to-wall double entendres and cheeky quips.
Although not an adaptation of the stage play In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play), both concern sexual liberation and repression in the Victorian age and the early days of the world’s most famous device outside of the iPod.

Hysteria will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. No Australian release date has been set.
