Yahoo! Movies has released the first trailer for Albert Nobbs, a film already touted for an Oscar nod for its star Glenn Close. Given she has been nominated five times already, the Academy may just give her the statue next year if this trailer is anything to go by.
A woman passes as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Some thirty years after donning men’s clothing, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making.
Based on the short story by George Moore, Close has already portrayed this role on stage, and is joined by Michael Gambon, Janet McTeer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aaron Johnson and Mia Wasikowska. Rodrigo García (Revolución, Passengers) will direct a script co-written by Close and novelist John Banville.
Albert Nobbs is released on 26 December 2011 in Australia from Hopscotch. It will also receive a limited release in the US from 27 January 2012.
Glenn Close should win an Oscar. But Janet McTeer should win for best supporting actress really hoping she does.
