Variety reports that actor Benicio del Toro is up for an undisclosed role in the untitled sequel to J.J. Abrams Star Trek.
Here’s what we know about the film so far. Back in September, we reported that J.J. Abrams was officially back on board for the untitled sequel to 2009′s Star Trek, ending speculation as to whether he would be taking a producer role or would be getting his hands dirty in the twenty-third century again.
According to Variety, “Though no offer has been delivered, sources close to the project say Benicio Del Toro is expected to be offered the part soon, maybe by weekend’s end. Insiders say Del Toro has met with Abrams but doesn’t know what the role is, in order to keep in a secret. Par and Skydance had no comment on the casting”.
The film was also put on hold due to original writer Robert Kurtzman, who wrote the first script with Robert Orci, working on his directorial debut Welcome to People.
Late last month, the film was said to be shooting in January, although there is no script as yet and the film is unlikely to be called <i>Star Trek 2</i>.
