SuperHeroHype has revealed that Simon Kinberg has been hired to pen the sequel to the successful origin story X-Men: First Class from 20th Century Fox.
This is something of a good news/bad news story. Kinberg has written Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes, but he also wrote the much maligned Jumper and X-Men: The Last Stand. The latter is not entirely his fault though, with Brett Ratner partly to blame for the direction that film took. However, it remains (alongside Wolverine) as one of the examples of how a good franchise can go wrong.
Kinberg has also put together the script for the forthcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
While it is yet to be confirmed, it can be assumed that director Matthew Vaughn will once again helm the film, and the majority of the cast will return.
X-Men: First Class followed the early days of the world’s most famous team of super-powered mutants. It starred James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence.
