Film Victoria announced today that the $37 million feature I, Frankenstein, written and directed by Stuart Beattie (Tomorrow When the War Began) and starring Aaron Eckhart, will commence shooting in Melbourne in February 2012.
The modern-day gothic thriller is based on the Darkstorm Studios graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, the creator of the Underworld franchise, and will be produced by Lakeshore Entertainment in association with Hopscotch Features.
Innovation, Services and Small Business Minister Louise Asher said in a statement that “I, Frankenstein will spend up to $37 million in Victoria and employ around 500 local cast and crew.”
Exact locations for shooting are to be announced, but the base of operations will be around the Docklands studios.
I, Frankenstein is currently slated for a 22 February 2013 release from Lionsgate in the US. Hopscotch/eOne will distribute the film in Australia.
