Variety reports that Alice Eve has been picked by director J.J. Abrams to beam up to the USS Enterprise in the yet-to-be-titled sequel to 2009’s Star Trek.
Eve would join villain Benicio del Toro as one of the new cast members, with the returning cast to include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin.
While a deal is yet to be put in place, the trade source says one is imminent. It that “Eve’s character is new to the Star Trek universe, unlike del Toro, would insiders believe will be playing someone familiar to Trekkies”.
Very few details have been released about the notorious secretive Abrams’ follow-up to his first hit, but Roberto Orci and co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are currently working on at least the third draft of the film.
The sequel will begin shooting in January 2012 and is set for a release on 17 May 2013.
