Variety, who have been a Star Trek reporting machine of late, reports that Peter Weller has been cast in an unknown role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel.
This comes hot on the heels of the casting of Alice Eve as a new character, who also reportedly joins Benicio Del Toro in the role of the villain. There was Internet speculation that this would be Khan Noonien Singh, but that has since been denied.
Returning cast will of course include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin.
Very few details have been released about the notorious secretive Abrams’ follow-up to his first hit, but Roberto Orci and co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are currently working on at least the third draft of the film.
Peter Weller is best known for his role as Robocop and David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch, More recently he has appeared in TV’s Dexter and directed episodes of Sons of Anarchy, along with narrating the documentary William S. Burroughs: A Man Within.
The sequel will begin shooting in January 2012 and is set for a release on 17 May 2013.
