Oscars.org revealed the new official poster for the 84th Academy Awards today, capping off a return to a very traditional Oscars ceremony.
Following the departure of producer Brett Ratner and subsequently host Eddie Murphy, the triumphant comeback of eight-time (soon to be nine) host Billy Crystal is supported by a poster that also celebrates the glories of Oscars past. Images from Forrest Gump, The Godfather, The Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, Driving Miss Daisy, Giant, Gladiator and, of course, Casablanca surround the classic gold statuette that a string of hopefuls will pray to take home on the night.
The poster was Anthony Goldschmidt, along with Mark and Karen Crawford of the design firm Blood & Chocolate.
The final Oscar nominees for the 84th Academy Awards will be announced 24 January 2012. The 84th Academy Awards Ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on 27 February 2012.
