Before the red band trailer for 21 Jump Street came out back in November last year, very few of us expected it to take quite the comedic turn that should have been evident from the presence of Jonah Hill. Now we have a brand new Australian poster for the film, which is a little darker than the US equivalent.
Anybody else getting a high-school shooting vibe from this? Two guys with lockers behind them, stalking the halls with guns? Do we need to talk about Kevin again? We still hold out hope for the film, with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs) on board. You’ll also notice that the fabulous US tagline “The only thing getting blown tonight is their cover” has been replaced with the possible Lethal Weapon reference “They’re getting too old for this shift”.
According to the official synopsis, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier – and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
21 Jump Street will be released on 16 March 2012 in the US and on 29 March 2012 in Australia from Sony.
