Hitflix reports that the Internet has once again succeeded in a cause close to our hearts, in securing The Muppets a presentation spot at the 84th Academy Awards. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy will appear on stage together for an award presentation.
The Muppets has one nomination for the Oscars, the Bret Mckenzie penned “Man or Muppet“, but neither it or the song from Rio will be performed at the ceremony due to a lack of time. However, according to the Oscars schedule, there is time for several hours of red carpet telecasting and presentations by Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Emma Stone and the cast of Bridesmaids during the ceremony.
It’s not easy, being green.
The Muppets also have a strong history with the Oscars. Apart from a number of nominations over the years, including Best Song for “The Rainbow Connection”, The Muppets have appeared at several ceremonies. At the 1980 awards, Miss Piggy co-presented with Johnny Carson, devastated that she had not been nominated for Best Actress. When asking Carson if she was “Oscar material”, Carson replied “Oscar Mayer maybe.” Two years later, Piggy and Kermit performed “The First Time It Happens” on stage, and also made appearances at the 58th and 68th Academy Award ceremonies.
