Following Steven Spielberg’s wonderful animated The Adventures of Tintin, many have wondered which of Hergé’s famous comic books would be adapted into a film. This morning via Twitter, screenwriter Anthony Horowitz gave us a clue.
Simply stating “You can expect to meet Cuthbert Calculus” opens up a number of possibilities. The character first appeared in Red Rackham’s Treasure, but he went on to appear in The Seven Crystal Balls, Destination Moon, Explorers On The Moon, The Calculus Affair, Flight 714, The Castafiore Emerald, Tintin and the Picaros and The Red Sea Sharks.
Many have already assumed that Red Rackham’s Treasure would be the next chapter, as it is the logical jumping off point from the first film. However, the film had been previously rumoured to be be based on Prisoners of the Sun, which also features Calculus.
Now let the casting speculation commence! The film is expected to be released in 2013.
