There can be only…Reynolds? Variety reports that the Green Lantern and Safe House star has become the frontrunner to take over the mantle of the immortal Scottish warrior in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s reboot of Highlander.
Beginning with Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 film Highlander, the original film told the story of Connor MacLeod, forced to fight other immortal warriors through the ages until only one remained. The once-great cult franchise has floundered for a number of years, with four sequels, an animated film and series and two superior TV series (Highlander and Highlander: The Raven) among its expanded universe.
Remember that the last time Reynolds wielded a sword was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as a misguided take on Deadpool, which is allegedly being spun-off into its own film. The last time we saw Christopher Lambert was in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. This could actually be a great career move for everyone.
Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend) is producing with Peter Davis, Enrique Lopez Lavigne and Belen Atienza for Lionsgate-Summit.
