It was telegraphed at the end of the second season, and as fans will know, the sword-toting, zombie chaining Michonne is coming to the third season of The Walking Dead. Now EW has revealed the first good look at the character.
‘About time’ has been the cry of comic followers, who were introduced to the character way back in issue #19 of a series that will reach its milestone 100th issue in July. Relative newcomer Danai Gurira, born in the US and raised in Zimbabwe, will take on the role. She was most recently seen in HBO’s Treme.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of the original comic and executive producer of the TV series, told EW: “The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics. But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there…I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”
