In more villain-debunking news, following our similarly themed Thor 2 story, actor Simon Pegg has confirmed that Khan will not be the villain in J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Pegg said: “It’s not Khan…That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not.”
However, he does go on to say that “obviously I can’t talk about it”, but praises Benedict Cumberbatch, who has been cast as the villain in the sequel. Giving as much information as he humanly can, Pegg notes that he is “not just another disgruntled alien. It’s a really interesting… sort of… thing”.
Khan was originally played by Ricardo Montalbán in the 1960s Star Trek episode “Space Seed”, and again in 1982’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Following 2009’s Star Trek‘s timeline shifting premise, many had speculated this would be an alternate retelling of that 1982 film. Of course, the Star Trek sequel will be much earlier in Kirk and crew’s timeline, so the possibilities are endless – and we look forward to them!
The sequel is set for a 3D and 3D IMAX release in Australia on 16 May 2013 from Paramount.
