It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since Mamoru Hosoda’s masterpiece Summer Wars, one of the most original and magical films of the last few years. With The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki (おおかみこどもの雨と雪) only a month or so away from a release in Japanese cinemas, Anime News Network (via Twitch) has revealed the third trailer for the film.
Hosoda, who also directed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, is well on his way to becoming the new Hayao Miyazaki, especially as this latest film appears to deal with magical creatures and forest transformations. For the film, Hosoda established Studio Chizu, who co-produced the film with Madhouse. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto of the Evangelion series is said to have been a character designer on the film.
According to Twitch, here’s film’s synopsis: “Hana (Aoi Miyazaki) is a 19-year-old college student. She falls in love with a werewolf (Takao Osawa) and has two children, Ame and Yuki. The four live quietly in a corner of a city, but Hana decides to move to the countryside when the father werewolf suddenly dies.
The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki premieres in Japan on 21 July 2012 from Toho.
