The latest player on Australia’s distribution scene has announced its first title to be launched this winter. Newly launched Regency Film Distribution, headed by a former Umbrella Entertainment manager, has set the release date of its first theatrical title, the sci-fi epic Love – opening nationally in cinemas on August 30. They will also release Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir and Anton Corbijn Inside Out in the future.
This visually stunning space odyssey is directed by William Eubank and produced by the band Angels & Airwaves (ex Blink 182), who also wrote the original music.
Love revolves around astronaut Lee Miller (Gunner Wright, J. Edgar) who becomes stranded in orbit aboard the International Space Station after losing contact with Earth. As time passes and life support systems dwindle, Lee battles to maintain his sanity – and simply stay alive. His world is a claustrophobic and lonely existence, until he makes a strange discovery aboard the ship. Driven by the powerful music of Angels & Airwaves, Love explores the fundamental human need for connection and the limitless power of hope… A high-impact visual adventure that resonates a common truth, that everyone has a story to tell and something even greater to leave behind.
Angels & Airwaves is led by Blink 182 guitarist / vocalist Tom Delonge who said about the film, “Angels & Airwaves has aspired to merge the art of film and music together for some time, but in a way that represents who we are, and what we stand for. What we didn’t know was how a few talented people could take a small idea and develop it into an odyssey. I’m so proud of the result. I personally don’t know how the hell we pulled this off.”
It came together through the creativity and resourcefulness of writer/director William Eubank, who built the space station and civil war set pieces himself on his parents’ ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley. Love is Eubank’s first feature film, for which he won best director at the 2011 Athens International Film Festival.
Regency Film Distribution is a new, dedicated and fully resourced division of Regency Entertainment that will bring engaging and unique films to screens across Australia and New Zealand and is headed by Ivan Vukusic, former Umbrella Entertainment manager of cinema sales and marketing.
Future theatrical releases for Regency Film Distribution will include the documentaries, Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir and Anton Corbijn Inside Out.
