MIFF 2012: Melbourne Film Festival Unveils Post-Cannes Line-Up

The Taste of Money

MIFF 2012 Campaign ArtAlthough the massive success of Sydney Film Festival 2012 was perhaps attributable to the number of Sundance and Cannes films on the program, this hasn’t deterred the 61st Melbourne International Film Festival from claiming over 30 Cannes films for their 2012 line-up.

In a press release today, they announced that they will be screening winners Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Angels’ Share and Holy Motors, along with fan favourites Moonrise Kingdom and On The Road. Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, which won an actor nod for Mads Mikkelson, has also been picked up by the prestigious festival.

Other highlights include Takashi Miike’s For Love’s Sake (which joins the already announced Ace Attorney), and an impressive array of Asian cinema, including Hong Sang-soo’s Another Country, Soo Im-Sang’s The Taste of Money and  SFF Official Competition film The King of Pigs. Japan’s 11:25 The Day Mishima Chose His Own Fate is screening, along with Abbas Kiarostami’s French-Japanese co-production Like Someone In Love.

Previously announced films include the opening night The Sapphires, almost 30 First Glance titles and the 12 films in the Next Gen program. On 11 July, members can start buying tickets from the full program, announced on 13 July.
