Roadshow Films, the Australian distributor of The Dark Knight Rises, has announced that the Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ film has burst into cinemas, grossing in excess of $3.5 million in its first day on screens, making it the number one movie in the country.
This is hardly surprising given the amount of positive buzz it has been generating for years now, and that the only other film foolish enough to open this week was Hungary’s The Door. Critics are generally in agreement that this is a masterpiece of a film, generating a current 87% on the all-important Rotten Tomatoes rankings. Of course, it has also infamously shut down reviews that are generating negative commentary from fans of the film.

The Dark Knight Rises is release in Australia on 18 July 2012 from Roadshow Films.
