Oscar winner and reigning Batman Ben Affleck stars in this curious new trailer for the upcoming THE ACCOUNTANT, directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior). Using the hypnotic strains of Radiohead’s “Everything In It’s Right Place,” it portrays a man who sees the world differently, and his perfectly ordered mind. What’s striking about this trailer is Seamus McGarvey’s striking cinematography, with a cool-blue colour palette that emphasises the lead’s detachment. The message of ‘what is normal?’ and the repeated memes within the trailer perhaps indicate that this will be a thematic quirk to the final feature as well.
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organisations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian un-cooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.
THE ACCOUNTANT is released on 3 November 2016 in Australia from Roadshow Films, and in the US on 14 October.
