The CW has confirmed that the Man of Steel himself will make an appearance in SUPERGIRL Season 2. While casting is yet to be confirmed, it’s a big move for the show as it transitions from CBS to CW in the second year, joining fellow Greg Berlanti productions Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
“Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
DC Entertainment TV shows have previous been seemingly verboten from using the big guns on screen, resulting in prequel series like Gotham or de facto Batman scenarios in Arrow. In the first season of SUPERGIRL, the titular character (played by Melissa Benoist) usually encountered her cousin in silhouette, obscured from a distance, or in the case of a particularly on-the-nose cameo, by only showing his super feet in the shot. A young version of Kal-El appeared in “For the Girl Who Has Everything.” Of course, former Superman Dean Cain appears as Kara’s adoptive father throughout the series as well, leaving a big question as to who will fill the shiny red boots for the TV show.
More importantly: how does this impact our Crazy Fan Theory on how The Flash: Season 3 will create waves for the other three shows? We’ll find out when SUPERGIRL Season 2 debuts later this year.
