Trouble in paradise! Deadline reports that director Tim Miller has left the sequel to Deadpool, this year’s surprise blockbuster adaptation, due to “creative differences.” The film is still due for release in 2018 from Fox.

Deadpool made over $782 million worldwide when it was released in February 2016. It was a labour of love for star Ryan Reynolds, who had previously played a comics inaccurate version of the character in the ill-fated X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The star was determined to bring the character to the screen without compromises, and perhaps this is where some of the tension around the sequel lies.

In our review for the original, we said that “the film completely understands why comic book readers have followed these character for over 80 years, and why cinema audiences can now expect to do the same.”

The source goes on to report that the split was amicable, and Miller will still helm the big Fox project Influx. The studio is keeping the franchise alive in the meantime with Logan, the third and final Wolverine film to star Hugh Jackman, which dropped a trailer earlier this week.
