To the strains of dance music that hasn’t changed since the 1990s, the trailer for Danny Boyle’s T2: TRAINSPOTTING 2 comes roaring into our collective stations. Taking the energy of the original and tempering it through 20 years worth of (less than) graceful ageing, the highly anticipated sequel delivers a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle). Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.
Trainspotting, Danny Boyle’s second feature, was released back in 1996 and in many ways captured the zeitgeist of a generation. It’s follow-up, based on Irving Welsh’s Porno, is released in Australian cinemas on 9 February 2017 from Sony Pictures Releasing.
