For one of Stephen King’s shorter stories, THE MIST sure has received a fair amount of play. Reprinted multiple times in various anthologies, and adapted into a 2007 film by Frank Darabont, the story is now being made into an ongoing TV series for Spike. Debuting on 22 June, the show promises to vastly expand the plot of the original novella.
Starring Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Spector and Frances Conroy, this Christian Torpe created series gets us out of the single location of the original story and opens up the world to narratives involving individual characters, places outside the immediate small-town Maine setting and the grim plot twists of the original. However, it still seems to maintain that notion of the horror scenario bringing out the best and worst in people, with this particular mist set to stick around for a little longer than its predecessors.
Fun fact: elements of the story can see seeing as tying in with King’s magnum opus The Dark Tower, also receiving an adaptation in cinemas this August.
