The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed news that actor Josh Brolin has been cast by Fox to play the futuristic character of Cable in DEADPOOL 2. The deal is said to be for four films, which may include a Deadpool sequel and the long-rumoured X-Force film.
The Oscar-nominated Brolin adds this comic book credit to his increasingly long list of characters, not least of which is Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brolin has also starred in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Men in Black 3. Other actors that had been mentioned included Michael Shannon and Brad Pitt, both of whom had some ‘leaked’ concept art released.
Cable was first introduced in 1986 by Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld in Uncanny X-Men #201, and was eventually revealed to be the future son of Scott ‘Cyclops’ Summers.
David Leitch is directing the sequel. Ryan Reynolds will, of course, return as the title character. Zazie Beetz has also been cast as Domino, a super-powered mercenary. The arrival of Cable was teased during an end-credits sequence of the first film, one that paid tribute to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
