The wonderful folks as AsianWiki have posted the full trailer for Yojiro Takita’s THE LAST RECIPE (ラストレシピ ~麒麟の舌の記憶~), due out in Japanese cinemas on 3 November 2017.
Based on novel “Kirin no Shita wo Motsu Otoko” by Keiichi Tanaka, it centres on Mitsuru Sasaki (Kazunari Ninomiya) a chef who can create any dish by tasting it once, but has lost his passion for the craft. When he is asked to make a single dish for a dying man, he seeks out the legendary recipe of Chef Naotaro Yamagata (Hidetoshi Nishijima) who journeyed to Manchuria during the the 1930s.
Also starring Gou Ayano and Aoi Miyazaki (both in last year’s excellent Rage), it looks like it will be that always winning combination of historical drama and food porn. Director Takita already has the next film in the works, with Kita no Sakuramori (北の桜守), another historic film about the aftermath of the Soviet invasion of Sakhalin Island in 1945. That film is due out in March 2018.
