Stop the Internet! Wes Anderson’s new stop-motion animation film is here, and it’s every bit as charming as we imagined it would be. It hits Australian cinemas on 19 April 2018 from Fox, and the trailer is embedded below.
Designed to be a tribute to the films of Akira Kurosawa, and set largely around a young Japanese boy, it’s Wes Anderson’s first fully animated film since 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Set 20 years in the future, ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of Atari Kobayashi (Koyu Rankin), 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.
The ridiculously large voice cast includes everyone. At the very least, it stars Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Liev Schreiber, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham, Ken Watanabe, Courtney B. Vance, Bob Balaban, and Japanese star Akira Takayama.
