One of Australia’s biggest genre festivals is back for another year as Monster Fest announces the first bits of the program that will run from held from 23 to 26 November at the Lido Cinemas in Melbourne.
The opening night film is the world premiere of Australian film BOAR, John Jarratt, Ernie Dingo, Chris Haywood, Simone Buchanan, Melissa Tkautz, Steve Bisley, Rodger Ward and more. Directed by Chris Sun, it’s described as an “outback-set horror masterpiece about a giant, brutal, blood crazed pig – a beast that is sure to go down as one of the most terrifying creations in Australian cinema history!” You can check out a teaser trailer for the film below.
Ticking boxes in both our special focus on Australian and Asian cinema is the Australia/Japanese co-production THE VIPER’S HEX, directed by familiar face Addison Heath and Jasmine Jakupi for Black Forest Films. Kiyo, a cursed hostess, falls pregnant to Anchin. After learning the news, he flees Tokyo leaving her heartbroken. Kiyo, now alone turns to someone who has been with her since birth – a vengeful spirit known only as “The Viper”
Other highlights include the Melbourne-made zombie epic THE LAST HOPE from local director Leigh Ormsby. Following on is the return of Melbourne genre stalwart Daniel Armstrong, whose Murderdrome opened the festival to raptures in 2013, and whose new feature TARNATION promises to be “bigger, better, bloodier and more brutal than ever before!”
Another Melbourne based director, Donna McRea makes her Monster Fest debut with the World Premiere of LOST GULLY ROAD.
