Disney released a teaser trailer for MARY POPPINS RETURNS, the sequel to the 1964 classic musical on Monday during the Oscars. It is due for release in Australia in January 2019.
Acting as a follow-up to the original as well as being a soft reboot, it stars Emily Blunt as the titular nanny. Set in 1930s London, it follows a grown-up Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) who get a visit from Mary Poppins after Michael suffers a personal loss.
As we saw from the massive list of placeholder dates released by Disney last week, there’s at least 17 untitled live action films on their slate between now and 2023. One has to imagine that at least some of those will be remakes to existing live action properties, especially as their most popular animated fare is already slated for the remake treatment.
MARY POPPINS RETURNS also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, and Angela Lansbury. You can check out the teaser trailer and Australian poster below.
