Indiana Jones 5 filming in 2019 confirms Spielberg

Indiana Jones

The Great Harrison Ford Franchise Revival continues! During an acceptance speech at the Empire Awards, director Steven Spielberg confirmed that he would begin shooting INDIANA JONES 5 in the UK in April 2019.

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK,” said Spielberg, accepting the Legend of Our Lifetime award. “The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”

The full speech, which also makes mention of the Time’s Up movement, can be seen in the player below.

Harrison Ford is returning at the sprightly age of 75, proving that it’s never too late to get out your whip. This will be the first Indiana Jones film since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It would be generous to say that it received mixed reviews. In that film, Indy had progressed from fighting Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s to battling the Commies in the 1950s. Will this adventure take us deep into the 1960s and the Vietnam War? The Cuban Missile Crisis? The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl? An aged Indy at Woodstock?

This is also the first Indiana Jones film since LucasFilm came under the Disney banner. If their annual Star Wars outings and multiple TV series are anything to go by, we can only imagine that this won’t be the last time we see the Indiana Jones universe make it to the big screen.
