THE POSSESSED (中 邪), described by some as China’s Blair Witch Project, is getting a wider international release in April. Two striking new posters have been released for director Kai Ma’s horror film.
In order to document the ancient Chinese customs and rituals, Ding and Liu, two college students follow a couple of exorcists into a remote village in rural China. As the exorcism is going more uncontrollable, they start to witness a series of unexplainable strange activities and all this has been recorded on their videotape.
The film was originally released in 2016 as part of China’s FIRST International Film Festival, and the Blair Witch comparison comes from the mockumentary style of the flick. The version coming to cinemas is a recut theatrical version.
THE POSSESSED is released by China Lion in Australia on 4 April and in the US on 5 April 2018.
