Madman has announced that the Brisbane MadFest will host the Australian premiere of MAQUIA: WHEN THE PROMISED FLOWER BLOOMS (さよならの朝に約束の花をかざろう), the directorial debut from acclaimed screenwriter Mari Okada (Anohana and The Anthem of the Heart). It is being held 2 & 3 June at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
The people of Iolph have a lifespan of hundreds of years, maintaining their teenage appearances indefinitely, but when the peace of this town is shattered by those who want the secret to their longevity, a young girl named Maquia is forced to escape. Wandering the land alone, she finds an orphaned baby. Choosing to raise him, as the boy grows older the difference in their lifespans is thrown into ever-sharper relief.
Anyone can buy tickets to the screening, not just Madman Anime Festival attendees. Tickets to the premiere are $15 and available to purchase on the Madman Anime Festival website now.
The film released in Japan in February this year, and will be coming soon to cinemas across Australia and New Zealand at a later date.
