With just over a month until the 2018 edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) kicks off, the good people at MIFF have announced the appointment of the festival’s new Artistic Director, Al Cossar.
This follows the announcement in April that Artistic Director Michelle Carey, who after 10 years with MIFF, would make the 67th edition (2–19 August 2018) her last. Cossar, who takes up the position in October 2018, comes to the role after acting as interim Artistic Director following Carey’s maternity leave in 2017.
“I’ve experienced the festival as a square-eyed fan and film obsessive, as a volunteer, as its Programmer, and this year as its Associate Artistic Director,” Cossar said in a statement. “I am both thrilled and honoured to take up this new role as Artistic Director in an organisation that I love.”
MIFF 2018 is already shaping up to be a big one, with the announcement of Opening Night Film Wildlife, the 32 First Glance titles, a massive amount of titles coming over from Cannes, the MIFF Schools program, a Nicolas Cage-a-Thon (!), and World Premiere of The Coming Back Out Ball Movie as the Closing Night Gala.
The full program will be revealed on Tuesday 10 July. MIFF Members have exclusive access to a pre-sale period from 10-12 July. All tickets go on sale Friday 13 July. You can check out the full list of titles announced so far below. Check out miff.com.au for more details.
