One of our favourite festivals will return for its 22nd year. The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) will launch on 17 October 2018 and tour nationally until 2 December.
With a carefully curated selection of films in each city, the 2018 Festival program will feature special international guests, special school screenings and a free 35mm classic film program.
The Japanese Film Festival isn’t just the biggest Australian showcase for Japan’s prolific film industry, but a cultural tour carefully curated by the festival. In the same year, you can be laughing at an absurdist comedy, weeping at a melodrama, or being splattered by an intense 16th century battle. In between festivals, the JFF has also experimented with JFF Fringe, an off-season program that highlights some of the Japanese cinema you may have missed.
We will be covering the JFF in detail again this year as part of our Asia in Focus feature. Dates for Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne are below. Tickets will be available at japanesefilmfestival.net or at venue box offices.
