As the rain starts to fall on Sydney, the meteorological shift has signalled that it’s time for the Sydney Film Festival again. For the first time, we won’t have to worry about getting wet – at least not from the rain.
There will be 20 features and 16 shorts across the program streams. These include Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Best Australian Documentary, Europe! Voices of Women in Film, Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, and the Screenability stream.
Highlights from the local content include eight world documentary premieres, such as the First Nations stories THE SKIN OF OTHERS and OUR LAW. Topical highlights include immigration stories ROSEMARY’S WAY and A HUNDRED YEARS OF HAPPINESS, and the climate-based THE WEATHER DIARIES and THE LEADERSHIP.
Pioneering Australian women in very different professions are highlighted in DESCENT and WOMEN OF STEEL, the latter focusing on local women in their 14-year fight for the right to work in Wollongong’s steel industry.
The full program can be found on the Sydney Film Festival website. There will also be a selection of ‘best of’ films available on SBS On Demand Sydney Film Festival Selects.
SFF has also contributed to the We Are One: A Global Film Festival, which also announced its full lineup. Highlights from that include the online premiere of Ricky Powell featuring Natasha Lyonne and LL Cool J.
SFF 2020 runs from 10-21 June and ticket packages are now available.
