Watch the extended trailer for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. online

Following the masses of teasers yesterday, Marvel has now released an official full-length trailer to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If the previous ones were epic, then this one fleshes out the story a little bit more, showing the introduction of new people to the world of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s still unclear whether J. August Richards is Luke Cage, but he’s definitely cited as being a “super hero”.

The cast are showcased, including Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). Of course, the cause for excitement is that Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) lives again.

The show will debut on Tuesdays in the Fall 2013 season in the US.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ordered to TV series, teases first “Hulk” footage

According to IGN and SuperHeroHypeMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been ordered from pilot to TV series in one of the most unsurprising pieces of news yet. Coming off the back of not only the world’s third most successful box office hit ever, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3 (which is already on its way to $800 million globally), this seems like a no brainer.

The other little bit of leaky news today is that a small 6-second piece of viral footage, purportedly from the pilot, has surfaced. It seems to involved the Hulk (or possibly the Abomination?) being papped by someone super secret. Marvel/Disney has been promptly taking these down, so don’t be surprised if it disappears by the time you try to look it up. Could this be what the long-rumoured Hulk TV project has morphed into?

    Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

Joss Whedon shows us not all heroes are super with “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, Marvel’s The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”), Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”) and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville,” “Lost,” “Heroes”) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Let the speculation commence. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is expected to debut in the Fall 2013 season. We’ll probably know more come July when San Diego Comic-Con is on.

Cover Story: Best Comic Book Covers of June 2012

Each month, hundreds of comics are released to stores for the hungry masses of fans around the world. To stand out on the shelves, you have to put the great art up front. You can judge a book by its cover.

Welcome back to our continuing monthly column aimed at finding some of our favourite covers for the month. In June, the traditional midway point of the year, we’ve got twenty outstanding front bits to our favourite form of graphic storytelling fun. These columns can sometimes get a little dark, so it’s great to be able to include at least one clown (Shaky Kane’s The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterested #6), some toys (the always reliable Joao Ruas on Fables #118) and whatever the hell that freakout is on Rob Guillroy’s Chew #27. The art of J.H. Williams III, Phil Noto, Scottie Young, Rafael Grampá and Michael Komarck all make return visits to this column, along with new entries from Dave Eaglesham,  David Yardin and the timeless awesomeness of Alex Maleev. There’s also a debut comic this month, The Massive #1 from Dark Horse Kristian Donaldson. i09 has a great article on the creation of this cover.
