  • ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ set photos feature Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (Spoilers)

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ set photos feature Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (Spoilers)

Following last week’s concept art tease, Getty Images has released some on-set photos from the Avengers: Age of Ultron shoot, with Joss Whedon and the team currently residing in Italy. They give us our first good look at what Scarlet Witch (Elisabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) will look like in action, not to mention in uniform.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will bring the Marvel Universe’s biggest heroes together again to face one of their biggest villains, with Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon returning to write and direct the sequel. Marvel’s The Avengers was released in 2012 and went on to earn $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the third-largest grossing movie of all time.

Other cast members seen in the photo include the returning Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and a look at Ultron-esque creature.

Naturally some of these photos could be considered *SPOILERS*, so proceed with caution.

  • Star Wars: ‘Rebels’ concept art and logo, John Williams returns for ‘Episode VII’

Star Wars: ‘Rebels’ concept art and logo, John Williams returns for ‘Episode VII’

The official Star Wars site has revealed some concept art for the forthcoming animated TV series Star Wars: Rebels. The news was announced at the Star Wars Celebration event in Germany over the weekend, the second such fan convention to take place in Europe. Composer John Williams has also been confirmed to score the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.

For Star Wars Rebels, fans were given their first look at the Ghost, which will be the main character’s ship and play a big part in the series, as well as a computer rendering of a very McQuarrie-esque Stormtrooper, the interior of a Star Destroyer, and more. The show’s logo, a minimalist yet powerful design, is notable for its orange and black color scheme, which recalls the flight suit colors of Rebel pilots in the original Star Wars trilogy.

The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

Another bit of exciting news was that legendary composer John Williams will be returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII. This will certainly give the film, directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Kathleen Kennedy, a sense of continuity with the other films in the Star Wars saga. Below is a video of Williams talking about the process of scoring the films.

  • First Official Photo of Hugh Jackman from The Wolverine

First Official Photo of Hugh Jackman from The Wolverine

The Wolverine is busily being filmed here in Sydney and Japan, and we have seen a few shots of the extras on set in period Japanese costume. That’s a tease, of course, because we’ve been forbidden to share them, but we really like the look of this thing so far. Now Fox has released the first official image of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and it does seem as though he is slightly fitter than the average bear.

The photo tells us absolutely nothing about the film, except for the fact that Wolverine is frequently shirtless, and potentially loses his legs to a black mist at some stage in the film. With his regenerative powers, we have no doubts that these will grow back at some stage. His pose also suggests a dance number, which could be a hangover from Les Misérables.

The sequel to 2009′s X-Men: Origins – Wolverine is set in Japan, and is said to be loosely based on Frank Miller (Sin CityThe Spirit) and Chris Claremont’s 1982 comic book arc Wolverine, which sees the main man travel to Japan, where he falls for Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord.

Directed by James Mangold with a script by Christopher McQuarrie, it is set for a 26 July 2013 release from Fox.

The last time Rodriguez spoke up, it was to announce that Charlie Sheen had joined the cast. On this he adds “I just finished working with Lady Gaga on Machete Kills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!“. Has this now officially become the most interesting film of 2013?

Principal photography is now ongoing for the sequel to Machete, starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana and Charlie Sheen. This all ends in Machete in Space. How excited can we possibly get?

  • New Australian Poster for Holy Motors

New Australian Poster for Holy Motors

One of our favourite films of the Sydney Film Festival this year, and definitely one of our favourites of the year to date, was Holy Motors. Now Icon Film Distribution has released the Australian one-sheet for the film. From cult French filmmaker Leos Carax, comes the groundbreaking Holy Motors starring Kylie Minogue and Eva Mendes. From dawn to dusk, a few hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a shadowy character who journeys from one life to the next. He is, in turn, captain of industry, assassin, beggar, monster, family man, and more…

Of particular note is that pull quote there at the top of the poster. Go on. Take a closer look. That’s right. It’s from your favourite site on the Interwebs: The Reel Bits. A long quote to be sure, but we’ve never been one for brevity. Check out the original review the quote was taken from.

Holy Motors is released in Australia on 23 August from Icon Film Distribution.

  • Costumes of The Dark Knight Rises on Display in Sydney

Costumes of The Dark Knight Rises on Display in Sydney

The Dark Knight Rises is now on at the movies, and Event Cinemas here in Sydney have got a short exhibition up displaying the three key costumes from the film.

When viewed up close, these costumes are incredibly detailed and amazingly, look as though they could exist in the real world. Everything in Bane’s mask, for example, appears to have a function. Likewise, the “Catwoman” costume seems even more form-fitting than it did in the film. Our efforts to steal Batman’s utility belt were nabbed by the high tech security system known as glass.

These are only around for a few days, so if you are in Sydney, get on down to the George Street cinemas for a look-see.

  • Teaser Poster for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master

Teaser Poster for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master

Huffington Post has revealed the teaser poster for the next Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams.

The film deals with Lancaster Dodds (Hoffman) a man who creates a religious movement in the 1950s. Some have said it is a thinly veiled musing on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, but the lid has been tightly sealed on the film to date.

As the source so nicely describes it, the poster is “a glass-half-full affair”. This is exactly what a teaser poster should be, teasing concepts and feelings rather than three big name actors mugging PhotoShop.

The film currently has a release date of 12 October 2012 in the US.
