  • New Poster and Banner for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

New Poster and Banner for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

Of the 743 registered projects that have Guillermo del Toro attached to them, the one to watch is undoubtedly Pacific Rim. All you need to know is giant monsters versus giant robots. It all sounds a bit Evangelion to us, but it should be cool nonetheless. The film’s official Facebook page has revealed a new banner and poster for the film, the latter exclusively available at San Diego Comic-Con.

The poster is a minimal affair, but it gives us a hint of the scale of the giant robots that will be seen in the film.

Pacific Rim is released on 10 May 2013 in the US, and in Australia on 11 July 2013 from Roadshow.

  • Marvel Teases Uncanny Avengers #1 and Minimum Carnage

Marvel Teases Uncanny Avengers #1 and Minimum Carnage

As San Diego Comic Con approaches, Marvel are pumping out even more teasers that will get full run-downs at the con panels. Today, it’s the cover for the previously announced Uncanny Avengers #1, along with a new teaser for something called Minimum Carnage.

The Uncanny Avengers cover is by John Cassaday, and it shows off the new ‘it can go anywhere’ Marvel logo. “We’re no longer going to be locked into where our logos are placed, which has traditionally been the top third of our covers, and we’re going to start to look at our covers with an eye towards strong design and commerciality above all else, explained Marvel Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada.  “What’s going to attract the reader’s eye, what’s going to make them want to buy that particular title? That’s the first question our artists and editors are going to ask themselves.”

The second teaser comes via a single image that simply says Minimum Carnage, which is presumably meant to evoke the Maximum Carnage run of the 1990s. That run saw Spider-man and Venom team up to stop a rampaging Carnage and a band of killers from destroying a bunch of stuff. It also inspired a video game of the same name, not to mention a line of toys. This is what we have to look forward to in October.

Mondo Unveils Posters for King Kong, Iron Giant and Lord of the Rings

Mondo, the collectible art boutique arm of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has unveiled no less than six new posters for three classic films.

Laurent Durieux is behind both posters for King Kong and the one-sheet for The Iron Giant. These beautiful pieces of artwork evoke the wonder these films held when they were first released. They are also really cool.

The second image from The Iron Giant is actually for a jointed figure by Kevin Tong. Mondo claims that “There are 9 points of articulation and it will come pre-packaged and ship flat”.

Finally, Mondo has announced that they have a licence for Lord of the Rings posters, starting with Aaron Horkey’s poster (and variant) for The Return of the King.

  • Beautiful Poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful

Beautiful Poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful

Disney (via IMPAwards) has released the first poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, due out on 8 March 2013 in the US.

The beautiful painted poster evokes an instant sense of nostalgia and the familiar, with the Yellow Brick Road, rolling green hills and even the twister conjuring up memories of the 1939 classic film. The main character is the smallest element on the poster, rightly labelled a teaser, for it is not yet known what his role in this brave new world will be.

Synopsis: Disney’s fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
