  • First image and poster from Jason Reitman’s Young Adult

First image and poster from Jason Reitman’s Young Adult

Lovers of Hello Kitty, Jason Reitman, Diablo Cody and Charlize Theron rejoice! The first poster and image from Reitman’s forthcoming film Young Adult has hit the Interweb waves from Paramount.

The poster and image are profoundly hip and kitsch and stuff. Unfortunately, this will still be written by Diablo Cody. As such, expect some painfully self-conscious dialogue and an unwavering belief that a 33-year-old ex-stripper has a secret window into the mind of today’s youth.

Synopsis: Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Young Adult reunites Jason Reitman, Academy Award© nominated director of “Juno,” and Academy Award© winning screenwriter, Diablo Cody.

  • Vin Diesel reveals Riddick artwork and news

Vin Diesel reveals Riddick artwork and news

Via Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, the actor has revealed a piece of concept art for the forthcoming Riddick film and a bit of news about its central themes.

He encouragingly mentions the R-rating that the film is going for, staying true to the promise that this will be a return to the criminally underrated Pitch Black, and moving away from the just plain criminal The Chronicles of Riddick. It’s clear that Diesel has been a big fan of the series for some time, and despite his successes with the Fast and the Furious series, is keen to get fans on board for this potentially great sequel.

    [stextbox id=”grey”]I hear you…

While I was working on character, the Director and his team of artists have been creating the world and style of this picture. We all know how much I enjoy concept art and storyboards, haha, I am like a kid in a candy shop.

Seeing the early stage of CGI is always fascinating to me, it is a element that usually comes together long after the filming process, so you look forward to seeing it fully realized.

First stop for the Riddick production is Canada, which is where we shot a large part of Chronicles…

P.s. I am grateful to have Universal in such support of this complex character’s journey… not many studios would back an “R” rating. Very cool.[/stextbox]

  • New poster for Burning Man

    New poster for Burning Man

Transmission have unveiled a new poster for the forthcoming Australian film Burning Man.

Burning Man is the reckless, sexy, funny, moving and ultimately life-affirming story of Tom, a British chef in a Bondi restaurant, who seems to have decided there are no longer any rules he needs to obey. Whatever Tom is up to, his actions seem to be tolerated by those around him. As Tom descends into darkness, fragments of a different story begin to emerge. All the women in his world are trying in their own, very different ways to help put him back together.

Written and directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (Better Than Sex, Gettin’ Sqaure), it stars Matthew Goode, Bojana Novakovic, Essie Davis, Kerry Fox and Rachel Griffiths.

Burning Man will be released in Australia on 27 October 2011 from Transmission.

  • New set photos of Superman from Man of Steel

New set photos of Superman from Man of Steel

Thanks to reader submissions on SuperHeroHype, we have our first close-up look of Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel.

Although retaining many of the classic design elements of the Superman costume we know and love, there are some clear changes here that we couldn’t see in the first publicity shot released. The black detailing around the sides is definitely new, and the lack of underpants on the outside of the costume is a little unnerving.

While we feel that the Superman costume was always going to be fine the way it was, Warner didn’t hire Zack Snyder to plan the Man of Steel the way it has been done for the last eight decades. Click the photos below to enlarge.

We particularly like the image of Supes having his makeup touched up.

  • The League Presents: Exclusive Horrible Bosses Sydney Red Carpet Interviews

The League Presents: Exclusive Horrible Bosses Sydney Red Carpet Interviews

Horrible Bosses had its Sydney premiere on 16 August 2011, and its comedy superstars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis were in town to talk about the film. Horrible Bosses is about Nick (Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Day), for whom the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust.  Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers…permanently.

We need to thank Roadshow for making this red carpet opportunity possible. Richard Gray, David Longo and Jorge Duran hit the red carpet, while David McVay braved the photo pit for the fabulous snaps below.

    About The League
In the beginning there was chaos, a vast information network that provided few islands of hope. Then there was a light, a shimmering hope in the darkness. A portal for lovers of the wonders of celluloid and the entertainment industry. Then there came another, and another ushering in a golden age of wonders the likes the world had never seen. By day, they live out their lives as the humble David McVay of Geek Actually, Jorge Duran of The Spotlight Report, Richard Gray of The Reel Bits, Dave Longo of Damn Good Cup and Josh Philpott of Hip Hop Net. but when the signal goes out they come together as one! The League assembles! Tremble all who dare stand in its path!

The music used in this video is Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Takin’ Care of Business”. The awesome intro animation comes from David Longo.

Horrible Bosses was released in Australia on 25 August 2011 from Roadshow.

  • Blackthorn: Trailer and poster

    Blackthorn: Trailer and poster

It’s no secret that we love our Westerns here at The Reel Bits, and Blackthorn looks like it will be an instant classic. Thanks to iTunes Movie Trailers, we can now have a look at this forthcoming saga starring Sam Shepard as none other than Butch Cassidy. The trailer and poster are below.

Synopsis: It’s been said (but unsubstantiated) that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were killed in a standoff with the Bolivian military in 1908. In Blackthorn, Cassidy (Shepard) survived, and is quietly living out his years under the name James Blackthorn in a secluded Bolivian village. Tired of his long exile from the US and hoping to see his family again before he dies, Cassidy sets out on the long journey home. But when an unexpected encounter with an ambitious young criminal (Eduardo Noriega) derails his plans, he is thrust into one last adventure, the likes of which he hasn’t experienced since his glory days with the Sundance Kid.

In the grand tradition of the best Westerns coming out of Europe, from Sergio Leone to Jan Kounen, director Mateo Gil is best known for his screenplay to Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), later remade as Vanilla Sky. He has also penned The Sea Inside and Agora.

  • D23 Expo: The Avengers Cast assemble backstage

D23 Expo: The Avengers Cast assemble backstage

The principle cast of The Avengers have assembled for a photo opportunity at Disney’s D23 Expo in California. Marvel has released this historic snap.

None of the cast are in costume, of course, except for Robert Downey Jr, who actually is Tony Stark.

Left to right, the photo depicts Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Boss, actors Scarlet Johannson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Cobie Smoulders (S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Maria Hill), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige and President of Marketing Walt Disney Studios MT Carney.

The D23 Expo runs from 19 to 21 August, and it is expected that news on The Avengers, now owned by Disney as part of their Marvel Comics purchase, will be unveiled on the Sunday morning.

The Avengers is released on 4 July 2012 from Disney.

  • Wreck-It-Ralph: Disney reveals title logo

    Wreck-It-Ralph: Disney reveals title logo

Disney revealed the title logo for their forthcoming film Wreck-It-Ralph. The film is the story of an arcade game Bad Guy, Wreck-It-Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) determined to prove he can be as good a Good Guy as Fix-It-Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer).

Details of the film are still scarce, although we know it will be directed by Rich Moore (The Simpsons, Futurama) and also feature the voice talents of Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch.

The logo was revealed at the D23 Expo today, and later in a higher-res version on the Disney Animation Twitter. Take a look:

    Wreck-It-Ralph Logo

We are loving the retro vibe on this thing, reminiscent of  the aesthetic of the recent hyper-kinetic Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. It could be the comedy smash that Disney have been looking for the last few years. The Princess and the Frog and Tangled went a long way towards restoring Disney’s storytelling dominance, and we look forward to whatever this brings.

Wreck-It-Ralph will be released on 2 November 2012 in the US from Disney.
