  • Mondo Posters for The Night of the Hunter and The Old Dark House

Mondo Posters for The Night of the Hunter and The Old Dark House

As part of Mondo‘s Film Foundation Series, they will be releasing two new posters online today for The Old Dark House and The Night of the Hunter.

Elvisdead is the French artist behind The Old Dark House poster, inspired by the 1932 film from James Whale, the director most famous for Frankenstein (1931) and the subject of the Bill Condon film Gods and Monsters (1998), where he was played by Ian McKellan. None of that changes just how creepy this poster is.

Speaking of creepy, The Night of the Hunter (1955) remains one of the spookiest performances to date, and this poster somehow manages to crank Robert Mitchum’s love-hate Harry Powell up to eleven. This poster comes from Phantom City Creative, regular Mondo collaborators, who use a bold minimalism of the film’s black and white, coupled with Mitchum’s predatory eyes and a splash of red that signals the danger within those pupils.

  • New Concept Art from Pixar’s Monsters University

New Concept Art from Pixar’s Monsters University

Following the release of no less than four teaser trailers this week, Disney•Pixar has released two new pieces of concept art from Monsters University that give us a little bit more info about the picture, which is a prequel to Monsters Inc. For example, the university was founded in 1313.

Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters Universityunlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Monsters University is directed by Dan Scanlon (CarsMater and the GhostlightTracy) and produced by Kori Rae (UpThe IncrediblesMonsters, Inc.).

Monsters University is set to arrive on 21 June 2013.

First Images from Raging Bull 2

According to the press release, Raging Bull II promises to “quench the unsatisfied thirst that movie goers desire to see more of this true middleweight boxing legend”. We’ve read that three times, and it still makes no sense.

Making even less sense is Raging Bull II, the sequel to Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed 1980 film starring Robert De Niro. The press release goes on to say that the sequel/prequel “fills in the gaps and allows us to get to know Jake LaMotta. It answers such questions as what happened to him or what he was like as a youngster. LaMotta himself was present and providing guidance before and during the shoot”. In other words, answers to questions we never asked.

It could still be a contender, with a cast that includes William Forsythe, Joe Mantegna, Tom Sizemore, Penelope Ann Miller, along with Mojean Aria as the young Jake LaMotta. The film comes from writer-director Martin Guigui.

  • Total Recall Viral Campaign Releases 8 New Posters

Total Recall Viral Campaign Releases 8 New Posters

IMPAwards have just added another eight posters from the Total Recall viral campaign, which have been appearing on billboards and bus shelters around the US.

The posters are by designers cold open, who did that terrific campaign for A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas last year. Most of them are about making your fantasies real, but the final one is PSA about the dangers of memory tampering. It’s just coolness in one-sheet form.

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick.  Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories.  For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man.

Total Recall is released in Australia on 6 September 2012 from Sony.

  • Green Arrow Key Card Art for Comic-Con Hotels

Green Arrow Key Card Art for Comic-Con Hotels

One of the nicer bits of publicity for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con is the addition of collective hotel key cards for the 40,000 branded fans that enjoy the likes of Warner’s Arrow, 666 Park Avenue and Revolution. These will be made available at the “top hotels” in the San Diego area during the con. Being the comic geeks we are, we’ve included the Green Arrow “key art” below.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.

Arrow is set to debut at Comic-Con on July 11, and in October 2012 on CW.

  • Behind the Scenes Prometheus Photos Reveal Unseen Alien

Behind the Scenes Prometheus Photos Reveal Unseen Alien

Over at the Prometheus Forums (via Collider), we have been given a first glimpse at an unseen character from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Minor spoilers, ahoy.

If you’ve already seen the film, you will know of a character that appears at the start of the film. This photo suggests that he was not alone, and there is a greatly expanded sub-section to be discovered in the 20-30 reported minutes of deleted scenes from the film.

While we had problems with the film, we are intrigued to see where this story thread pays off, either now of in the eventual sequel.

Head over to the Prometheus Forums for a ton of other images.

  • Mondo Posters for E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial and Wrath of Khan

Mondo Posters for E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial and Wrath of Khan

Continuing their Summer of 1982 series, Mondo has released prints for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial poster, and its alternate, are by Dan McCarthy. Following a theme of his, silhouetting nature against something otherworldly (just as he did with his posters for The Lost World), these capture one of the most magical moment in Steven Spielberg’s classic that still resonates now.

Australian duo Sonny Day and Biddy Maroney, collectively known as We Buy Your Kids, are behind the retro-future of the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. It’s what the future looked like back in the 1960s, man. There’s so much going on there, it’s hard to know where to start, including Khan’s distinctive fringe forming something of an optical illusion at the top of the page. If somebody wants to donate one of these posters to us, we’d be eternally grateful.
