    What We’ve Been Watching:

A collection of other things we’ve been watching this week. David and Richard watched the terrible new release rom com What’s Your Number?. Josh and Richard rave about Drive. And then they went old school with David watching The Sword and the Sorcerer and Richard watching Can’t Buy Me Love.

    Feature Film Review 1

Footloose directed by Craig Brewer. It is written by Dean Pitchford & Craig Brewer based on the 1984 movie. It stars Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Andie MacDowell, Miles Teller and Dennis Quaid.

Ren MacCormack is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter Ariel in the process. Source: Paramount Pictures

Our Verdict: A good remake that, because of its faithfulness to the original’s script, seems more like a re-staging of the original rather than a remake. Worth a look even though the older members of the audience might get the feeling that they’ve seen it all before.

    Watch the trailer here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/footloose/

    Feature Film Review 2

Real Steel directed by Shawn Levy. It is written by John Gatinas based on a story by Dan Gilroy and Jeremy Leven and, in part, on the short story “Steel” by Richard Matheson. It stars Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis and James Rebhorn.

Set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, washed-up fighter Charlie, who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring is now nothing but a small-time promoter, earning just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. Source: Modified from the Dreamworks official synopsis.

Our Verdict: Opinions differ on this one. David and Richard enjoyed this fun family romp. They believed the film has heart and got excited by the Rockyesque fight scenes and storyline. Josh really didn’t care for this film feeling that he just couldn’t connect or care about any of the characters. Nicholas “The Little Geek” McVay jumps in to say that as a kid, he loved it and would recommend it to friends.

David watched the season premieres of “Two and a Half Men” and “The Playboy Club”, plus finished watching the Star Wars films on Blu-Ray. Feature Film Review

A thriller centered on a young man who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website. Source: IMDB

A group of assassins come together for a suicide mission to kill an evil lord. Source: IMDB.

    Feature Film Review 2

The Change-Up directed by David Dobkin and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. It stars Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Olivia Wilde and Leslie Mann.

A comedy in which a married father accidentally switches bodies with his best friend, leading to a series of wildly complex difficulties. Source: IMDB.

    What We’ve Been Watching:

A collection of other things we’ve been watching this week. We watch more than we can review so we use this time to catch up.

    Feature Film Review

‘Final Destination 5’ directed by Steven Quale and written by Eric Heisserer. It stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher, Ellen Wroe, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, P.J. Byrne, Arlen Escarpeta, David Koechner, Courtney B. Vance and Tony Todd.

In Final Destination 5, Death is just as omnipresent as ever, and is unleashed after one man’s premonition saves a group of coworkers from a terrifying suspension bridge collapse. But this group of unsuspecting souls was never supposed to survive, and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group frantically tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda.Source: Warner Bros.

Our Verdict: Far better than the fourth instalment. This was a lot of fun and well worth visiting for Final Destination veterans or newbies.

    Watch the trailer here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/finaldestination5/

    Mini Feature Film Review

‘Chalet Girl’ directed by Phil Traill and written by Tom Williams. It stars Felicity Jones, Ed Westwick, Bill Nighy, Brooke Shields, Tamsin Egerton and Bill Bailey.

Pretty tomboy Kim Matthews, 19, used to be a champion skateboarder – but now she’s stuck in a dead end job trying to support her Dad. Opportunity comes knocking in the form of a catering job in the one of the most exclusive chalets in the Alps. At first, Kim’s baffled by this bizarre new world of posh people, champagne and skiing – but then she discovers snowboarding, and the chance to win some much-needed prize money at the big end-of-season competition. But before she can become a champion again, Kim’s going to have to dig deep to overcome her fears. Hard enough, without the complicating factor of Jonny, her handsome – though spoken for – boss. Source: Official Site.

Our Verdict: A surprisingly fun and quirky british rom-com. The first half is stronger than the predictable finale but enjoyable throughout. Felicity Jones is charming and deserves the hype she is receiving.

    What We’ve Been Watching

A collection of other things we’ve been watching this week including the TV series “Monster”, “The Company Men” and the HBO documentary movie “Superheroes”.

    Feature Film Review 1

‘Conan The Barbarian’ directed by Marcus ‘remake man’ Nispel and written by Thomas Dean Donnolly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Sean Hood based on characters created by Robert E. Howard. It stars Jason ‘I want to get into mythical creatures’ Mamoa, Stephen ‘I’m always the bad guy’ Lang, Ron ‘I survived Uwe Boll’ Perlman, Rachel ‘I should have been in Twilight’ Nichols and Rose ‘Look at me being evil’ McGowan.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil. Source: Anonymous on IMDB

Our Verdict: Avoid this mess of a film and watch the 1982 version instead.

    Watch the trailer here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/conanthebarbarian/

    Feature Film Review 2

‘Cowboys & Aliens’ directed by Jon Favreau and written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby based on the Platinum Studios comic by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. It stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Noah Ringer and Mr. Crabbs… sorry, I mean Clancy Brown.

1875. New Mexico Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. Source: Official Site.
