    Trailer for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy

Movies releases a trailer for The Paperboy, Lee Daniels‘ (Precious) latest film starring Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, David Oyelowo, Macy Gray, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman.     In the film, a directionless young man helps his reporter brother investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row, and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence.

    The gritty drama has a surprisingly amount of 70s groove to it from the Oscar-nominated director, complete with a soul soundtrack and the always awesome split-screen. The Paperboy competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

    The Paperboy is set for release in the US on 5 October 2012. It does not currently have an Australian release date.

    IMPAwards (via The Film Stage) has revealed a new poster for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy, which as the poster below points out is an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel. Yes, it’s a few days old, but we thought it was worth sharing.

    The pedigree on this film is pretty strong. Daniels’ last film was 2009’s Oscar-winning Precious, while Dexter is also responsible for penning the book that inspired the HBO series Deadwood. The cast of Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and David Oyelowo doesn’t hurt either.

    The official synopsis reads: A directionless young man helps his reporter brother investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row, and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence.

    The Paperboy is due out in 2012.
