  • Teaser Trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Revealed

Teaser Trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Revealed

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter posterTime Magazine has released a new teaser trailer for the first of two Abraham Lincoln films coming out this year. While the later one will be a prestige film from Steven Spielberg, the first certainly has the attention of the geeks, recasting the 16th US president as a vampire hunter. It is based on the 2010 mashup novel from Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The official synopsis reads: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

The film stars the likes of Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson and Rufus Sewell. The trailer plays without any sense of fun, which we think is needed for this kind of film. Let’s hope this finds an audience, as it is the kind of mashup madness that this ship we call the 21st century needs.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is released in Australian on 21 June 2012 from Fox. It is released on 22 June 2012 in the US.

  • Official Poster and Trailer for The Bourne Legacy

Official Poster and Trailer for The Bourne Legacy

Universal (via iTunes Trailers) has released the new trailer and poster for The Bourne Legacy, the highly successful spy franchise based on the Robert Ludlum novels. As it turns out, “There was never just one”.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

At first we were skeptical about this new inclusion in the franchise, as any Bourne film without Matt Damon seems a bit wrong. Yet the presence of Tony Gilroy, original cast members and an attempt to not simply replace Damon with another actor, but rather create a whole new storyline that is set in the same world, is a wise move on Universal’s part. Plus, Renner can’t do wrong at the moment.

The Bourne Legacy is released on 2 August 2012 in the US and 16 August 2012 in Australia from Universal.

  • The Untold Story The Amazing Spider-man Trailer Arrives Online

The Untold Story The Amazing Spider-man Trailer Arrives Online

The Amazing Spider-man (2012) - Shadow posterAfter debuting at screenings across the world today, including one we attended in Sydney, Sony Pictures has now debuted the full trailer for The Amazing Spider-man online. This is a very different take on Spider-man, and while it is slightly darker, this trailer (combined with the footage we saw today) is the Spider-man we love: full of wisecracks, impossibly agile movements, and yes, web-shooters.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-man is released on 3 July 2012 in the US and 4 July 2012 in Australia from Sony.
