  • ‘Supergirl’ promo for ‘Wonder Woman’ is a Multiversal dream

‘Supergirl’ promo for ‘Wonder Woman’ is a Multiversal dream

While DC Entertainment have drawn a line between their television universe and the DC Extended Universe, the well established existence of a Multiverse has always left the crossover open as a possibility. A new promo for the WONDER WOMAN film, featuring the cast of CW’s Supergirl, brings us one step closer. Or at the very least, has a little fun with the concept.

To the tune of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Terri Hatcher, and 1970s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter strut into a bar showcasing some pretty serious footwear. In the guise of Kara Danvers, our hero Supergirl gives a pretty serious indication that she has encountered the DC Extended Universe’s Wonder Woman at some stage in her travels. Check it out in the player below.

While this is by no means confirmation on anyone’s part that the universes are connected, it’s certainly fun to think of it that way. After all, The Flash has spent two season dipping in and out of the Multiverse, including multiple visits between Supergirl’s Earth-38 and Barry Allen’s Earth-1. In addition to the the four-way crossover with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow last year, we also saw Supergirl travel to Barry’s dimension for a musical crossover. At the very least, someone is having fun with the DC Extended Universe, and it may as well be DC themselves.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, WONDER WOMAN is the fourth film in DC Extended Universe, a series that began with Man of Steel, and continued with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. It hits Australian cinemas on 1 June 2017 from Roadshow Films.

  • ‘Blade Runner 2049’ trailer is mysteriously beautiful

‘Blade Runner 2049’ trailer is mysteriously beautiful

The long-awaited trailer for BLADE RUNNER 2049, the sequel to the 1982 Ridley Scott classic Blade Runner, has arrived. Teasing just enough information to hook us back into the world of replicants and ‘Runners, this one looks set to be your basic pleasure model.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

What’s immediately striking about the trailer is that it has the same grand sense of world building and city design that dwarfs the characters at the centre of it. The perpetual rain of the original is contrasted with the dryness of the desert that peppers the short piece, one that builds on the future noir of the existing world.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is released in Australia on 5 October 2017 from Sony, and in the US on 6 October from Warner.

  • ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ trailer arrives

‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ trailer arrives

Keep calm! The full trailer for KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE has arrived online from 20th Century Fox, and it carries on with the same levels of fun as the original film. Hitting US cinemas on 22 September 2017, and then a week later on 28 September 2017 in Australia, it already looks even more explosive than the first film. You can check the trailer below.

The sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, the surprise hit of 2015, sees the heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organisation in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organisations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

Directed by Matthew Vaughn from a script by Jane Goldman and Vaughn, and based on the original comic by Mark Millar, the massive cast includes Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Sir Elton John, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges…and Colin Firth. Not even death can stop a Kingsman it seems.

  • ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ teaser trailer arrives with a smash

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ teaser trailer arrives with a smash

You really can’t go wrong when you open a trailer with Led Zeppelin. The highly anticipated teaser for THOR: RAGNAROK has arrived from the land of the ice and snow, and it’s god a hell of a sense of fun about it.

With the exception of a small cameo in Doctor Strange, it’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on screen. In Marvel Studios’ THOR: RAGNAROK, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

The trailer seems to continue much of the humour from director Taika Waititi’s series of ‘Team Thor’ shorts, including that priceless final line of the teaser. The rest of the reel is a perfect blend of familiar characters and fast-cutting action.

THOR: RAGNAROK drops in Australia on 26 October 2017, followed by a US release on 3 November, from Disney.

‘It’ trailer makes us terrified of storm drains again

Roadshow Films has just dropped the IT official teaser trailer, ensuring that our childhood coulrophobia has returned in force. Is there a word for fear of storm drains? It’s probably just IT

  • ‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ trailer delivers a powerful truth

‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ trailer delivers a powerful truth

“The next generation would be justified in looking back at us and asking what were you thinking?” Paramount has dropped a trailer for the follow-up to the 2006 environmental documentary, which releases in Australia on 24 August 2017.

Delivering a power missive to both Donald Trump and Elon Musk in equal measure, former Vice President Al Gore continues to rage against the machine with his speaking tour that is now more salient than ever. Cameras follow him behind the scenes – in moments both private and public, funny and poignant – as he pursues the inspirational idea that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.

The visuals alone make this trailer worth watching, but with a US administration that threatens to deny climate science and defund the EPA, it’s incredibly clear who AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER is inconvenient for.
