The wonderful people at Madman have sent us the wonderful motion poster for the forthcoming Australian theatrical release of Lars von Trier’s controversial Melancholia. They have also released a behind the scenes look at the making of the beautiful poster.
In this beautiful movie about the end of the world, Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgard) are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of her sister Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg), and brother-in-law John (Kiefer Sutherland). Despite Claire’s best efforts, the wedding is a fiasco, with family tensions mounting and relationships fraying. Meanwhile, a planet called Melancholia is heading directly towards Earth… Melancholia is a psychological disaster film from director Lars von Trier.
Melancholia will be released on 15 December 2011 in Australia from Madman Films.
The ‘making of’ featurette includes interview footage with Art Director Marcus Cobbledick as well as images and footage of the elements used in creating the motion poster. Cobbledick demonstrates the steps taken to produce the motion poster and discusses the creative concept including the unorthodox inclusion of von Trier.
