Interview: Sarah Townsend on Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story

Sarah Townsend

Apologies for the sound quality earlier in the interview, as we had a bad line.

Few people know the life and career of comedian Eddie Izzard as well as Sarah Townsend. Having directed and produced live performances for Izzard such as Eddie Izzard: Stripped (2009) and Eddie Izzard: Live from Wembley (2009), Sarah has worked across virtually all entertainment mediums from her first love of theatre, through music composition and production and ultimately feature and documentary filmmaking.

Thanks to Roadshow DVD and the BBC, we were lucky enough to speak with Sarah on her 2009 Emmy Award nominated documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story.

As we spoke with Sarah about working with Eddie Izzard, finding the right balance in documentary filmmaking and the joys of interviewing George Clooney. Sarah is also embarking on a new project with Australia’s on a semi-autobiographical musical film set in the late 80s in the London standup circuit.

We need to thank the good people at Roadshow DVD and, of course, Sarah Townsend for her time and generous answers.

Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story is currently available in Australia on DVD from Roadshow.
