Variety reports that Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play an unspecified villain role in Marvel and Disney’s Thor 2, the second film to follow the blockbuster success of The Avengers.
As the trade points out, we know nothing of the potential villain role for the film, except that Tom Hiddleston will be returning to play the part of Loki. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously stated, “Loki has a part, but there will be a different villain, another big villain”.
Chris Hemsworth will, of course, reprise his role of Thor for the third time, and Natalie Portman is also expected to return. Director Kenneth Branagh will not return, with directorial duties taken up by Game of Thrones‘ Alan Taylor.
However, Deadline reports that scheduling conflicts with Anthony Hopkins in Red 2 may arise when it comes to the production of the Thor sequel.
Mikkelsen is no stranger to Norse mythology, having recently starred in Valhalla Rising for Nicolas Winding Refn.
Thor 2 is set to begin filming in London in their summer, and is due to hit cinemas on 15 November 2013 from Disney.
