Ah, the days of 8-bit gaming: Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, Rampage and Fix-It Felix! If one of those doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because Disney have made it up as the fictional retro game that serves as the background to their forthcoming animated film Wreck-It Ralph.
Insert your coins and play the original Tobikomi 1982 classic online. In a clever bit of marketing, Disney have put out this game for web fans to play via the film’s official site, and it will soon appear in actual cabinets around the US to promote the film in cinemas. Very much a clone of Donkey Kong and Crazy Climber (thanks, Gamesblip!), it is addictive as all hell. Practice now, impress your friends later.
Be excited about this film, as it will feature loads of characters from video game history. Ralph (John C. Reilly) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.
We’ve taken some screenshots for you, but go play the game, you lazy bums!
