Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has responded directly to a fan’s question on Twitter, who asked him if the word on street about him playing the titular DC Comics character in Brad Peyton’s Lobo were true.
“Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun.. “
Peyton directed Johnson on the underrated Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and his attachment to the project was announced back in April.
The foul-mouthed character of Lobo is an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Originally introduced in the 1980s, the character has often remained in limbo but enjoyed a massive popularity during the 1990s, when he would frequently appear in Superman books and was crafted as an anti-hero and parody of The Punisher and Wolverine archetypes.
The ever-present Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman will produce the film for Warner Bros. Lobo has previously appeared in a number of DC animated shows, and originally had his own web series.
