The cast of the Australian production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF grows as Sigrid Thorton, Lior and Mark Mitchell join Anthony Warlow in the local production of this perennial favourite with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein.
Australian musical theatre superstar, Anthony Warlow, returns direct from Broadway to play the lead role of Tevye. Anthony has spent the last three years treading the boards on Broadway playing Daddy Warbucks in Annie and most recently replacing Kelsey Grammar as Captain Hook in Finding Neverland.
Sigrid Thornton, having recently played the legendary Judy Garland, to critical acclaim, in the television mini-series Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door, will join Warlow as his sharp-tongued wife Golde, is Australian stage and screen star. Multiple ARIA award winner Lior will make his musical theatre debut as Motel, while comedian Mark Mitchell will play Lazar Wolf, the wealthy butcher. Currently playing Shaun Micallef’s on screen wife in ABC’s The Ex PM, actress Nikki Wendt will play the role of Yente, the meddlesome village matchmaker with further casting to be announced at a later date..
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has garnished a multitude of awards for both stage and screen productions, including Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Lyrics, Best Book and Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Best Music Adaptation. The Australian production is produced by Tim Lawson for The Works Entertainment, (The Illusionists, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, A Chorus Line), directed by the acclaimed Roger Hodgman (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and boasts the award winning choreography by Jerome Robbins (West Side Story).
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF will play for for 6 weeks only at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from Dec 29 and Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from March 24.
