“Nothing really matters when the one you love is gone…”
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have released the heartbreaking and haunting new music video for ‘I Need You,’ an official track off his new album The Skeleton Tree. Taken from the documentary One More Time With Feeling, a collection of interviews and music about the making of the album.
The emotionally intense film is shot in stark black and white is shot by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly) and is screened in 3D in the cinemas. New Zealand-born Australian film director Dominik has previously collaborated with Cave as a composer on The Assassination of Jesse James. Cave also played a small part in the film.
What’s so striking about the song and Cave himself is how world wearied he feels, the age in his voice coupled with the sombre video is reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt’ cover and accompanying video from Mark Romanek. Many will undoubtedly connect the 2015 death of Cave’s 15-year-old son during the recording of the record to its tone. We’ll just let the video speak for itself.
